Barbara Hrach, M.D.

Dr. Hrach completed her undergraduate education from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating cum laude with a BA degree in Chemistry. Her junior year was spent studying at Philipps Universitaet in Marburg Germany. Dr. Hrach earned her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1992. She completed her internship and residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1995 Dr. Hrach moved to California, initially landing in Ventura, where she practiced for a year with Foundation Health Medical Group. In 1996 she moved to Santa Barbara to pursue an opportunity to practice at Sansum Clinic. Realizing her preference to practice in a more intimate medical environment, she joined Dr. Richard Danson in private practice in 1997. Finally, in 2005, Dr. Hrach opened the doors of her solo practice at her current location, a place where she plans on practicing for many years to come.

Medial Research

Dr. Hrach has been involved in many medical research projects throughout her career at prestigious institutions including Case Western Reserve University, Harvard University and the Centers for Disease Control.


Dr. Hrach is actively involved in teaching. She was recently appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Medicine at USC Keck School of Medicine, teaching third year medical students in the outpatient setting. ( She is also actively involved in teaching the medical resident physicians at Cottage Hospital.

Dr. Hrach was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1995 and maintains her Board Certification by participating in the Continuous Professional Development Program. (

Dr. Hrach is an active member of the Medical Staff of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Department of Internal Medicine. (

Dr. Hrach was elected into fellowship of the American College of Physicians in April 2005. This honorable distinction is granted to a small percentage of internists who excel in their profession. (

Dr. Hrach is involved in community activities including acting as medical director of Hillside House, Jessie Hopkins Hinchee Foundation and Genesis Group Homes in Santa Barbara. These facilities provide homes and medical treatment to developmentally disabled adults.

In addition to the above organizational associations, Dr. Hrach is also an active member of the Santa Barbara County Medical Society, the California Medical Association and the American Medical Women’s Association.


Dr. Hrach was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1965. She met her future husband (a native Santa Barbaran) while in medical school and moved to California after completing her residency. She was married in 1997 and is mother to two lovely children, Elizabeth and Clayton.

Dr. Hrach enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys the outdoors, especially running, hiking, biking and kayaking. She participates in many local road races including her most recent accomplishment, the Santa Barbara International Marathon.
